PHOTO ALBUMS

The effect of a photo session is always digital or classic printed photos. But the truth is, digital photos can never replace printed ones.

As a photographer based in Stockholm, I am an absolute fan of large-format photo printed on paper or canvas, as well as photos printed in photo book.

Such one that you can always reach for on an autumn or winter evening and watch under a warm blanket over a cup of hot tea.

That is why I would like to strongly encourage you to invest in an album printed on silk paper, which in my opinion is one of the most beautiful frames for every photo session. Such albums, apart from being special keepsake, you can always reach for them or give them to your family.

I print albums and photos in a professional company that supports only photographers – Crystal Albums, who captivated me with its high quality products.

Tell your own story with beautiful photo albums.

What the photo albums

look like?

All photos are printed on high-quality silk paper, which, thanks to its properties, does not leave any fingerprints.
The sheets in the albums are of two kinds, the stiff and beautiful looking sheets in the Storyalbum, or a little more flexible but still stiff in the Storybook (Storybook has no stiffening interleaf compare to Storyalbum).

On the other hand, the multitude and variety of frames and colors will allow you to match the style of each of you. The offer includes leather and canvas bindings, on which it is possible to customize UV print, embossing or engraving according to your vision and needs. In albums, the minimum number of spreads is 10 (i.e. 20 pages), and the maximum is 50 (i.e. 100 pages).

My little model Zoja shows the photo album with her photos framed in nubuk leather, and made with personal engraving. In the future, Zoja will have wonderful albums from different periods of her adolescence, because her parents decided on the #IamGrowing project.

Fell free to ask me about photo albums.

DIGITAL ART

Digital Art is a variety of artistic compositions that relies heavily on the use of technology and computers in its creation. The technique it’s been around over 40 years. Already in the 70’s it was used to enrich the effects in advertising and movies.

As a child, I was a fan of comics. I liked the “freeze-frame” technique in the form of a drawing. I was amazed so I tried to draw small scenes from my life, or used my photography to created something fun.

In adulthood, advanced digital technology came to the rescue in the form of computer programs and graphic tablets. Using a digital pen, which can instantly turn it into a digital brush, another time into a pencil or marker, and my photos and portraits get a new lease of life.
I am an absolute fan of digital art.

FAQ: Common questions and answers about portrait photography

What does portrait photography entail?

Portrait photography, at its core, is a specialized type of photography focused on capturing the essence and personality of an individual or group. The subject is typically the main feature, with the background often providing a supportive and complementary backdrop. A successful portrait is one that manages to convey the unique identity and emotion of the subject, requiring a combination of technical skill, creativity, and an understanding of human nature on the part of the portrait photographer. Lighting, composition, and depth of field play a significant role in framing the subject and highlighting the details that contribute to a compelling portrait. There are different types of portrait photography, including environmental, candid, glamour, and professional portraits, each with its own distinct style and purpose.

How should I best prepare for a portrait photography session?

Preparation is crucial for portrait photography. Prior to the session, you may want to discuss with the photographer your expectations and any specific ideas you have. Understanding the style of portrait you want can help guide the session. On the day, ensure you’re well-rested and hydrated, and wear clothing that you’re comfortable in and reflects your personality. If you plan to use props, have them ready in advance. For the best results, it’s important to trust your portrait photographer’s guidance and maintain open communication throughout the session.

How long does a portrait photography session usually take?

The length of a portrait photography session can vary greatly depending on various factors, including the number of subjects, changes of clothing, location changes, and the specific goals of the session. A standard session can range from 30 minutes to a couple of hours. However, more elaborate setups or a larger number of subjects might require additional time. It’s always best to discuss this with your photographer beforehand to ensure a smooth session.

What different styles of portrait photography are offered?

There are various styles of portrait photography, each with its unique aesthetic and approach. Traditional or classical portraiture often focuses on the subject’s face and frequently uses a plain backdrop. Environmental portraits place the subject within their surroundings, using this context to give insight into their life or personality. Candid or lifestyle portraits are typically informal and capture people in action or in natural poses. Glamour or fashion portraits emphasize the allure and style of the subject, often featuring high-end clothing and accessories. Finally, conceptual or fine art portraits often use symbolism and artistic expression to tell a story or convey a specific message.

What should I consider when choosing a location for portrait photography?

The location for portrait photography should ideally complement the subject and the desired mood of the shot. Factors to consider include the aesthetic, color palette, lighting conditions, and whether the place holds any significance for the subject. Natural settings can offer diverse backdrops and good lighting, while urban environments can provide unique architectural elements. Indoor sessions, either at the subject’s home or a studio, can provide a controlled environment and personal context. Finally, always consider the practicalities such as accessibility, permissions required, and weather conditions.

What is a portrait in photography?

A portrait in photography is a representation of a person or a group of people, with a primary focus on the face(s), although full-body shots can also be considered portraits. The goal of portrait photography is to capture the personality, mood, and essence of the subject. It’s about more than just a physical likeness, the best portraits provide insight into the subject’s character, often through the use of lighting, composition, and backdrop.

What makes good portrait photography?

Good portrait photography captures the essence and personality of the subject effectively. It combines technical proficiency with a deep understanding of human nature to evoke emotion and convey a sense of the subject’s character. Important elements include lighting, which can dramatically change the mood of a portrait, composition, which can guide the viewer’s focus and enhance the story, and depth of field, which can ensure the subject is the main focus while the background complements and supports the image. A good rapport between the subject and the photographer is also crucial, as it helps to make the subject comfortable and allows their personality to shine through.

Can a portrait be full body?

Yes, a portrait can be a full-body shot. While the most common portraits are headshots or focus on the face, full-body portraits are a popular choice, especially for environmental portraits where the setting plays a key role in the image. Full-body portraits can provide a broader context and convey more about the subject’s personality and lifestyle.

What is portrait vs headshot?

A portrait and a headshot both capture an individual but serve different purposes and have different styles. A headshot is typically used for professional purposes such as a corporate profile, LinkedIn, or acting portfolio. It focuses on the face, is usually well-lit with a simple background, and aims to present a clear and polished image of the person. A portrait, on the other hand, has a broader purpose. It’s about capturing the personality, mood, and essence of the subject. It can be a close-up, a full body, or anything in between. Portraits allow for more creative freedom in terms of composition, lighting, and setting.

What is portrait photography

Portrait photography is a type of photography focused on capturing individuals or groups, often emphasizing the face but potentially including the full body or background elements to give context and depth. The ultimate goal of portrait photography is to reveal the personality, character, and essence of the subject.

As a portrait photographer, developing a connection with your subject is essential. This relationship is the backbone of creating a captivating portrait. It’s not solely about setting up a camera and shooting; it’s about revealing the essence of your subject. There’s an intimacy that you can capture and immortalize through the lens, a human touch that you bring out with your photography skills.

There are different types of portrait photography, each with its unique approach and objective. The traditional portrait usually focuses on the subject’s face and expression, while environmental portraits showcase people in their natural surroundings. Candid or lifestyle portraits depict people in action, often showing a glimpse of their personal lives, while glamour portraits highlight fashion, style, and allure. Each of these types of portrait photography requires a distinct set of skills and techniques.

When it comes to portrait photography, lighting plays an integral role in shaping the image’s mood and aesthetics. Whether you use natural or artificial light, your lighting strategy can emphasize certain aspects of the subject or background, alter the depth of field, and contribute to the overall narrative of the portrait.

Furthermore, the background in portrait photography can also play a crucial role in the composition. It can provide context, add depth, or serve to contrast and highlight the subject. When chosen well, the background becomes a supporting character that enhances the subject without overshadowing them.

In portrait photography, the camera and lens choice can significantly influence the final result. Factors like focal length, aperture, and sensor size can all play a part in the depth of field, angle of view, and overall aesthetic of the portrait.

To get the most out of portrait photography, photographers often employ techniques such as the use of a shallow depth of field to isolate the subject, and careful composition rules to direct the viewer’s focus.

Ultimately, portrait photography is a blend of science and art, where technical expertise meets creativity and human connection. It offers a window into the soul, capturing the essence of the individual at that particular moment. Despite the myriad styles and techniques available, the heart of portrait photography remains the same: it’s all about the subject.
